December 5th,1999 - The day I got adopted!

Wow - So much has happened today!  I got adopted from C.A.R.E today.  Read more about my story  by click on this icon ---> Click here to read about my humble beginnings! My new parents think I am so cute.  I have a new big brother who is also an Orange Tabby.   I have been a little shy for the first few hours - I mean, this house is new to me and I have a new big brother.  Spotmeister seems very curious about me as I am of him.  We've just been looking at each other from afar, kinda scoping things out.   I think I'll just "lurk" around for a few hours until I get more used to my new surroundings.  By the way, did I tell you about ALL the toys I have to play with?   There's so much to do here!   More later.....  Rusty

December 6th, 1999 through December 31st, 1999

Dec 6th, 1999 -  Monday

Well here it is.... My second day here!  So far so good!  Spotmeister seems to have accepted me as his "baby" brother and he even tolerates me jumping on his back from time to time!  We chase each other around the house like mad and just play till our hearts content.  You should have seen the look on my new momma's face when she walked in after working all day!  I mean we had this place in an uproar with the area rugs all messed up, the cat food all over the kitchen floor and she didn't even get mad at us!  Spotmeister took one look at her when she walked in ( I suppose he thought he would get into trouble or something ) and ran!  hehe - Then we played with the toys some more and then we admired the twinkling lights on the Christmas tree.  I think I am adjusting pretty well but when I am alone for a moment, I start to cry and my momma comes in to hold me and rub my head.  I think alot of my Foster momma Jan.  The family had given me and my brothers and sister a nice home to live in while we were awaiting new homes and took very good care of us.  I will be forever grateful that she found us that night!  Anyways, more to come later....  Rusty

Dec 9th, 1999 - Thursday

Hi there!   I am doing well - My big brother Spotmeister and I have been causing such a ruckus around here when my momma and papa go to work.  The other day, just before they left, I jumped on Spotmeister's back and when I couldn't hang on any longer, ( with Spotmeister running down the hallway at full speed ) I grabbed ahold of his tail and he dragged me all the way down the hallway!  My momma couldn't stop laughing!  I thought it was pretty fun as well.  My new way of getting attention now is to just pick a spot in the room, any room, and just start "crying" for no reason.  That gets my momma's attention real fast and she rushes over to me and picks me up and give me head rubs.  I think I've got her trained now!  I am also learning how to scratch on the cat post.  I haven't quite gotten the concept of it yet but I see that whenever Spotmeister does it, he gets treats.  And I just LOVE treats!   I guess we'll keep going over the routine till I get it right.   My favorite place to sleep is next to my momma, I usually can get her to give me head rubs for a real long time and when she falls asleep, I just go over to papa's side and do the same with him.  More later....   Rusty

Dec11th, 1999 - Saturday

Me again..... I learned to scratch on the scratching post!  I am so proud of myself, as so is my momma and papa.  Spotmeister is a good teacher - we scratch on it together.  Anyways, today is a lazy kind of day.  I got to sleep in today next to my momma.  She would give me tummy rubs and face rubs and that was so nice.   I just love attention!  Papa & I played with the kitty aerobics toy and my momma even shot a footage of me chasing the toy around and around in circles.  I was going so fast my head was spinning and afterwards I fell backwards cause I got dizzy - but it was so much fun!  We're gonna try and get some more pictures of me today so we can post them on my webpage.  Can't wait!  I want everyone to see them and see how cute I look!  Bye for now....  Rusty

Dec 18th, 1999 - Saturday

Wow!  Time goes by so fast lately!  Christmas is just around the corner and Spotmeister and I are so excited!  Momma has been preparing the gifts and were so anxious to find out what they are!  Our tree is beautiful - Its about 6 feet tall and its on a table so it makes it much higher! ( Momma says she put it on the table so Spotmeister and I won't get into the decorations ) Pretty clever, I say!  We have been pretty good and haven't even taken any of the decorations off of the tree - unless of course, they "happen" to just fall off!  hehe -  My favorite pastime lately is to "eat" things - I like eating the carpet, I like eating my papa's buttons on his shirt, I like eating papa's backscratcher, I like eating anything that resembles a "string" and I like eating my momma's wedding ring.  My momma keeps telling me to "stop" chewing on these things but I just can't help it!   But momma says I am a good boy so I am going to try harder not to play with these things.  Also momma is still working on getting some pictures of me on the webcam but I can't sit still so we have to keep trying until we can get some better ones.  She did get some pictures of me sleeping with the regular camera but we have to wait till we take it in and get it developed.  Today is just a lazy day for us - momma's just running around cleaning the house and getting things ready for Christmas.  I hope we get lots of toys!   Bye...  Rusty

Dec 19th, 1999 - Sunday

I got weighed today.  I weigh 5 pounds!  Momma tried to get Spotmeister on the scale but he "ran" - I think Spotmeister weighs about 13 pounds or more cause he eats ALL my kitten food and won't even touch his "lite" food at all.   Momma says I'm supposed to have the kitten food and Spotmeister's supposed to eat his hairball lite formula but now he won't even touch it unless my foods all gone.  I just LOVE to eat too!  Whenever I hear the food being poured in the dish, I come running from wherever I am!  Oh yeah!  Did I tell you?  I have my own E-mail address now so you can all write to me.  I LOVE getting letters!  Click here to send me mail -  Anyways, gotta go now and take my nap. Cya!    Rusty

Dec 24th, 1999 - Friday

Spotmeister and I got to open our Christmas gifts early.  I guess momma figured since I already had the gifts on the floor and playing with them, that I should at least be able to open them up.  ( smart thinking my momma is! )  I had SO much fun playing with all the toys we got!  TREEX2.GIF (22117 bytes)Spotmeister really wasn't interested as much as I was.   There's this one glittery red ball that's my favorite!  It's so light and airy I can fling it around the room and chase after it.  I must have played with it half the night!  Then we got this one toy, its kinda like a kitty aerobics toy and my momma put it up on the wall so we have to stretch and jump to bat at this toy on a wire.   It's alot of work but a couple of times I was able to "launch" myself from the cat scratching post and get it!  Even Spotmeister started playing cause it was SO interesting and irresistable.  We had alot of fun - momma tells us we have a few more gifts but we can't open them until tomorrow when it's really Christmas.   Anyways, Hope everyone has a mew-ry catmas and a great mew-lennium!!!

Dec 1999 - Is that Catnip I smell?

Dec 26th, 1999 - Sunday

Well Christmas is over. Darn!  We got SO many new toys, catnip toys and fun things for Spotmeister and me to play with while momma and papa are at work.   Well, we do still have my birthday next year to celebrate.  I just LOVE getting presents!  hehe  Oh, and guess what?  I found out today that I'm royalty!  Well, kind of.  Momma thinks I'm part Egyptian Mau.  Mau means cat in Egyptian and they are considered royalty and are worshiped.  My momma found out about it through different books and she says I have the tell-tale signs like the "mascara" lines that run down from the corner of my eyes to my cheeks, my "spotted" coat that breaks up into stripes and my ring stripped tail, my long thin ears and my long arms and long thin body and my thin coat.  Momma says that this breed is very similar to the Abyssinian breed.  I just "knew" I was special!  My momma always tells Spotmeister and me how special we are.  We get smothered with hugs and kisses everyday, sometimes several times a day but I don't mind one bit!  Gives me the warm fuzzy's.  Anyways, it's time for us to go to bed - momma's real strict about us playing all night and causing mischief.  ( it's not my fault!  Spotmeister made me do it!  <snicker> )  Click here to see some pictures of me taken about a week ago. Well, more later.   Rusty

January - February - March 2000

01/02/00 - Sunday

Well it's now the mew-lennium!  We made it without the world coming to an end or any other crazy revelations.  We spent the new years just watching t.v. and lounging around the house.  Papa had to work so momma and Spotmeister and me spent the evening alone.  We surfed the internet for awhile and momma played ball with me for a little while.  I got so many toys for Christmas so we dug out some of them and had some fun.  Took the CATmas tree down today.  Now i can't even try and climb it or "wait" for the shinny ornaments to fall down. ( they DO fall down on their own , you know! )  Kinda of glad though cause now there's less temptation and besides, I was getting kind of tired "batting" the pine needles around on the floor.  I tried eating a few but they are not nearly as tasty as the wheat grass my momma gives us.  Anyway, I am growing more and more each day - momma says I still look like a hotdog cause I'm so long and skinny.  Hopefully I will have some more pictures to post by next week.  Happy  mew-lennium everyone!!!  CIAO!  Rusty

01/09/00 - Sunday

Were did the time go!  Already a weeks past from the last entry.  I have been soooooo busy!  I spend most of my days now "foraging" for food ( as momma calls it )  I also found out that I DO eat almost anything - For instance, momma gave me a peanut to sample ( Spotmeister and I were "begging" and I suppose she thought if we smelled it, we wouldn't like it - WRONG! ) and I ate that, then she gave me a piece of popcorn and I ate that too.  I've also sampled flour tortillas, olives off of a pizza, green bell peppers, and I liked all of them too!  My momma just laughs because I am a kitty vacuum.  Spotmeister is so finicky with his eating - all he likes are his cat food and wheat grass.  I just like to sample a variety of things.   Other than that, Spotmeister and I have this new game we play - We chase each other up and down the hallway as fast as we can, EARLY in the morning, back and forth, back and forth for about an hour.  By this time, we are making so much noise that momma finally has to divert our attention to something else.  Well she finally figured out that we do this because we ate all our food out of the food dish and we are hungry and want to get her up to check our food.  Pretty clever and it works every time!   Spotmeister taught me that one - He told me he used to do that all the time before I came to live here, and he said another trick that works well too is that if you keep jumping up on the bed, jump down, jump up, run across the bed a few times and then just "stare" at momma or papa, they usually get the hint.  We tried that too. By the way, wanna check out a real "CREEPY" website I found?  Click on this ---->    Until next week,  Rusty

01/16/00 - Sunday

Been busy the last few days, Spotmeister and me.  We tried several times to re-decorate the house but when momma saw what we did, we got into a little trouble.   Well, it's not my fault that the plant ended up on the floor!  Well, momma fixed that by putting all the plants way high up so we can just "admire" them from the floor.  Momma says that some plants are toxic to us kitties - in fact, Spotmeister has a page on Toxic House Plants.  I never realized how many ordinary plants can make us sick, and ever worse, DEATH!   Anyway, I learned my lesson!  I have found a few more foods that momma let me sample.  I like green grapes, I like sucking all the juice out of it and leaving the peels on the floor so everyone can step on them.  Momma gave a piece to me and Spotmeister and Spotmeister sniffed at it and ran the other way!  hehe  I also tried a piece of a potato chip, hamburger, bread, and relish and I liked them all.  Lately, Spotmeister has been acting pretty peculiar.  He sits there and "bats" at my tail, tries to eat at it and stalks it!  I just let him do it for the most part but sometimes I have to "bat" at him back.  Then we start the whole process of chasing each other up and down the hallway until one of us gets tired.  ( usually Spotmeister ) He just keeps going after my tail!  He must be thinking I have "Mighty interestin' stripes all over my tail" <in my southern accent>  Anyway, momma's been a little sick the last few days.  Spotmeister says I should try and "osmosisize" momma back to health.  Spotmeister is real good at this.   He just lays right next to momma until she falls asleep, purrrrs and when she wakes up, he's still right there and she feels much better!  I tried, but I have to "perfect" my technique - I get easily distracted from all the "invisible bed mice" we have and then next thing you know, I'm chasing them all over the place!   I also found that it's very "funny" to roll all the toilet paper off of the roll in the bathroom.  Next thing ya know, there's a big ole heap on the floor!  Then I shred it to pieces and wait for the action to begin!  Momma didn't think it was too humourous although I did hear her laughing about it to papa.   I didn't get into trouble but momma made sure the bathroom doors were tightly closed from now on. Well, I got to go now and take my nap!  Bye for now, Rusty

01/23/00 - Sunday

Hi there, me again.  Been busy as a bee lately - just finding new things to explore and things to get into to!  Lately I have gotten myself into trouble knocking plants over and causing all kinds of mess while my momma and papa are at work.  They just don't understand how tempting it is when you have these "interesting" plant leaves dangling and "calling" my name to play with them.  They have told me over and over that these plants may be poisonous too.  Now they took even more drastic measures and have some of the rooms closed off while they are away.  And now, the plants are WAY out of eye shot.  Oh well, I guess I have enough toys to play with. <sigh>  I have been sleeping so comfortably lately.  I wedge myself in-between my momma and my papa and I lay on my back.  It's so warm and cozy this way.  Papa doesn't like me to sleep between momma and him cause he's afraid he'll roll over and squish me.  So momma ends up having to pick me up several times a night and move me to her side.  Eventually I make my way back to the middle again and the whole process starts over again.  Spotmeister told me once that he used to sleep on momma's side and in the middle of the night, when momma had to get up to use the bathroom, she didn't want to wake him up so she woke up papa and asked him to get out of bed on his side.  And when he asked her what was wrong with getting out on her own side, she said she didn't want to wake up Spotmeister!  She denies it and doesn't even remember doing this at all but I think it's hilarious!  I love sleeping and having wild dreams.  Sometimes, when I am dreaming, my legs start twitching and my arms start moving, like I am in hot pursuit.  Momma thinks I am dreaming of chasing mice all over the place or something like that.  What I'm really dreaming of is getting that tasty Ham momma put on the counter and eating it all up, as fast as I can without getting caught!  hehe  Anyway, it's been raining quite a bit here the last few days.  I like looking up at the skylights in the kitchen and hearing and seeing the raindrops fall.  Well, more again next week.  Rusty

01/30/00 - Sunday

Superbowl Sunday here!  Although momma and papa aren't into watching it, we've been hearing allot about it on the radio and t.v.  Spotmeister and I prefer to do our "own" superbowl games, batting around the toys that we have.  Momma had to put up cardboard dams under the stove and kitchen cabinet areas so I won't keep throwing the toys under the stove and between the cabinets where I can't reach them anymore.   Sometimes, I play for just a few moments and it gets lodged under the stove.   Then the games are temporarily over, unless I can summons momma over to where I lost my toy and let out a few quick meows.  She usually gets the hint when she finds me laying on my back with my arms under the culprit.  Momma took some pictures and a video of me enjoying mine and Spotmeister's DeliDome.   It's a nifty little treat dispenser that has the treats in a ball that we can bat around.  Every 4 hours we hear our names being called out and out comes one of these play and treat balls!  What a clever idea!  Sometimes I get so excited, waiting for the time to come where we can get out treats, that I try and "get the treats out" myself by sticking my hands in this thing and jiggling the balls around   on the carousel.  You have to check out this video to see the Delidome yourself!   It's soooo cool!   Anyways, momma had to buy me another collar this week cause I had already outgrown the one she got me about a month ago.  This time she got me one that was a "little large" so that when I do grow more, I will fit into it.  I think the black collar with little cat feet and fishes look good on me.  Makes me look slimmer. <laugh>  Well, time for me to take a cat nap!  Oh yeah, I read this thing about cats - its so funny!  Here it is:

Cats Are....
Cats do what they want, when they want.
They rarely listen to you.
They're totally unpredictable.
They whine when they are not happy.
When you want to play they want to be left alone.
When you want to be alone, they want to play.
They expect you to cater to their every whim.
They're moody.
They leave their hair everywhere.
They drive you nuts.
Conclusion: Cats are little, tiny women in cheap fur coats.

Until next time,  Rusty

02/06/00 - Sunday

Lately the weather has been rainy - cold and rainy!  I wish the sun would start to shine some more so I can bask on the floor in the path of the sun.  Today I got into trouble cause momma found me "chewing" and "ripping" apart the newspaper.  I think it's funny to see the shreds of paper all over the floor.   Besides, it beats the boredom around here when Spotmeister doesn't want to play.   Momma thinks I should spend more time playing with some of my more "educational" toys - I have so many of them and I do play with most of them but nothing fascinates me more than to tear up ordinary newspapers.  Maybe I can graduate to the more sophisticated women's magazines I see all over the coffee table - They look a little more harder to shred but maybe I can practice next time they go out for ice cream or something. <laugh>  Oh well, not much else new around here.  Momma is trying to teach me some tricks - Spotmeister knows how to roll over on command so momma thinks that I should know how too.  I got most of it down, especially when momma cues me with her hand motions over my head.  I still have a little trouble rolling over from left to right - my body just doesn't want to "go" that way but I think eventually I will have it down.  Anyways, more again later.  Rusty

02/13/00 - Sunday

Well things kinda winding down today.  Spent most of my day re-arranging things.   You know, re-arranging the carpet, the bills that momma puts on the dinner table, and oh, I almost forgot, re-arranging the food in the food dish to make it "appear" less so momma would think that we are out and starving.  I even tried hiding a few pieces behind the dish and also re-arranged it on the kitchen floor - maybe I could have hidden it better in the linoleum pattern.  In any case, momma wasn't too convinced that we were starving - tried telling Spotmeister that we need to work on our "pity" faces when food is being discussed.  I mean, what human being could resist a "pity" face form her beloved cats?  Well, we are working on it together, Spotmeister and me.  If it's anyone who can pull this off, it's Spotmeister!  He's had alot more practice than me.  Well Tomorrow is St. Valentines Day!  Here's wishing a HAPPY VALENTINES DAY to everyone!  More than likely, momma will be getting some fresh flowers and Spotmeister and I, well.... We LOVE flowers!  Momma won't let us eat them but if we're lucky, maybe we can get a quick sneak peak at them. Well, until next time, Rusty

02/20/00 - Sunday

Wanna know what my new name is?  It's not Rusty anymore - it's my alter-ego PESTY! hehe - Momma says I get way to "PESTY" in the middle of the night.  You see, I'm nocturnal and when momma and pops are sleeping, that's when I start waking up!  So naturally, I have to play with the "wrinkles" in the bed sheets, play with the "invisible" bed mice and play with anything that goes "bump" in the night.  This does not amuse momma one bit!  Especially when it's 2 in the morning and they both have to go to work the next morning.  Needless to say, I haven't yet caught one of them @#&^$ bed mice yet!  Most of the time though, I get a little lonely and just want "head" rubs but then again, it's 2 in the morning and momma doesn't feel like giving me any head rubs at that time. <sigh>  Anyway, wanna see a "cool" card trick? Ya like card tricks?  Click here!  Well, until next time, PESTY. er, um, I mean, Rusty

Got weighed today!  I am now 9 pounds - I was 5 pounds when I first got adopted so I did gain a few.  Spotmeister was 13 pounds and now he is 14.  ( cause he eats up all the food! ) He sure is "fluffy". hehe - Anyways, it's been pretty rainy and cold the last few weeks.   Momma keeps telling me about "old man winter" coming but I have no idea what's she's talking about!  Who's "old man winter" and WHY does he need to visit us here?  Momma says we "can't" really see him but we "know" when he is here.  Kinda like the "invisible mice" I suppose.  Well at least we don't have to worry about being out in the cold.  We can watch the cold from inside the house!  We just got our domain name registered too.  Now we have "more" email accounts for me and Spotmeister!  Mine is now Rusty@ewebbe.com and Spotmeister's email is now Spotmeister@ewebbe.com - BTW - we LOVE getting email!!!!!  Other than that, pretty much the same ole around here.  We've been finding all kinds of "new" toys to play with and exploring all around the house.   We love going into the closets and opening up all the closet doors in the house ( the sliding ones that is! ) and just leaving them open.  That way, if we get into trouble, we can run into one of them and no one will find us! <laugh> Sometimes we just go in the closets and just "hang out" - Most of the time we just like being "mischevious"  -  Momma says we are the way we are because we're "Orange".  I think that's a good thing, being Orange, that is!  Momma always refers us and Papa too as the "Orange" things.  It's like, when it's time for bed, she will tell us that "all the Orange things have to come to bed now"  We LOVE being Orange!   Well, more later.  Rusty

Can you believe it's already March!  Wow!  I've lived at my new home for only 3 months now but it seems like i've been part of the family forever!  Spotmeister and I are getting to be pretty good buds now - he tolerates alot of my day to day antics and even lets me give him a "bath" now and then.  To be honest with you, I think he just gets plain lazy and doesn't want to do it himself!  Momma thinks it's so cute!  Other than that, not much else new.  Momma's making pizza for dinner right now so I gotta run - I may get a "taste" ot two if I look real "cute"  hehe  More later, Rusty

03/12/00 - Sunday

Momma & papa just came back today from Skiing.  It's so nice to have them home!  Spotmeister and I rushed to the door as soon as we heard the car pull up!   So what did we do all weekend you ask?  <laughing>  Momma has an "Internet" computer and you only have to push "one" button to access it.  Spotmeister and I decided we were going to "surf" the web while they were gone so as soon as the car pulled up, we wanted to act "innocently" so they would not suspect anything.  So far so good.  We put everything back to the way it was. <sigh>  We only visited a "few" areas - not enough time to do some serious surfing!  Next time!  We didn't get into too much mischief this time though.  Only Spotmeister can do that and get away with it!  Once, before I was around, before momma was married, she got into big time trouble cause of Spotmeister.   Evidently, from what Spotmeister tells it, he dialed 911 from momma's phone by accident.  When the dispatcher answered and no one "answered" back, they got a little worried and sent the cops over to their house.  When Gramps opened the door and the cops asked who had dialed 911,  gramps said no one but they had traced the call from momma's phone.  They later figured it was Spotmeister since momma wasn't home.  When momma came home, Gramps was madder than a hornet and told momma to tell Spotmeister to "quit calling' 911!"  So from then on, the phone was placed on the wall so no more calls can be made.  That Spotmeister, what a smart aleck!  Anyways, we left the house in pretty "decent" order considering we had so much to play with while they were gone.  We got to mess up the rugs, scatter food all over the kitchen floor, mess up the kitchen rug, and strategically place our toys all over the living room floor.  This way, the house looked "lived in" and homey.  Rusty

03/19/00 - Sunday                          Red ones are cinnamon - mmmmm!

Today I got to get on top of the kitchen table ( momma doesn't know that I was up there, at least I don't think she does ) and licked all of the fancy colored Jelly Belly Jelly beans.  They are soooo good!  I especially like the "sours" such as the Green Apple, the Grape ones, and the Cinnamon ones.  I licked as many as I could and even managed a few off of the table onto the floor.  When momma went to pick them up, I could hear her tell papa how she wondered how they ended up on the floor.  Papa said it was probably "Rusty"Yellow ones are tasty too! - Smart guy my papa is!  Purples are my favorite!Momma said she'll just have to "catch me" before she can scold me on the rules of getting on top of the kitchen table.  For now, I think I will lie "low" until everyone forgets that the Jelly Belly's are still up there!  Spotmeister doesn't care for them.  Come to think of it, he's not interested in Jelly Belly's at all.   Me, I could lick them ALL day!  aNYwAyS, i GotTA Go nOW, i'M sTaRtInG tO fEeL A LitTLe fUnNY aFTeR eATiNG aLL tHoSe jELLy bELLY's  -   RruSTy

03/24/00 - Sunday

Hi there!  Today was a tiring day for me.  I've been getting "hairballs" lately and have had the urge to cough them up here and there.   I haven't been too good about aiming them in the right places though.  Momma hasn't gotten mad at me but I can see the look of anguish on her face as she's cleaning them up.  I don't know if it's disgust for the actual specimen or if she feels like I am in pain of some sort.  Actually it's not painful but uncomfortable and its sounds worse than it really is.  I feel very relieved afterwards, if not a bit tired.   She keeps trying to brush Spotmeister and me so we can keep the excess hair off and keep us from swallowing it when we take a bath.  We sure don't like eating the hairball food though.  It's definitely not as tasty as the "regular" food but momma's been getting smart and mixing the two together so we would eat all of it up.   Momma claims that Spotmeister has his hairball aiming down to to an "art".  It seems whenever Spotmeister has a hairball he wants to get rid of, somehow, no matter where he is, he manages to cough it up on one of momma's many throw rugs on the floor.  Momma thinks Spotmeister is being considerate and careful not to do it on her beige carpeting.  This way, she can just put the throw rug in the washer and it's clean in no time.  I am trying to learn that technique myself.  Seems alot easier.  Anyways, all this hairball talk is making me tired. Gotta go.  Til next time,  Rusty

04/02/00 - Sunday

Boy, talk about one scary day I had on Friday.  Momma and papa were busy getting ready for work and while they were rushing to get everything together, I was in the office, unnoticed, and when they shut the office door and left for work, I thought, oh my, what am I going to do!  I didn't want to panic but here I was, locked inside the office all day without food or water and the catbox.  Spotmeister kept meowing at the door but his cries for help were useless.  No one could hear us!  I paced around a few times, shredding up some paper on momma's desk, and slept a little in the chair, just passing time until someone could free me.  I wait and I wait and I wait!   The minutes turned into hours, all I could think about is how hungry and thirsty I was!  Hmmm, its almost 5:00pm, where's momma?  She's usually home by now..... Maybe she went somewhere after work?  I hope papa comes home soon and finds me.   It's almost 7:00p and I finally hear the door open!  Hooooraaah!  I cry and I meow as loud as I can so momma can hear me.  Then, the door opens and I am frantic!  I'm so elated to see momma!  I cry some more and momma hugs me, gets me some water and food and hugs me like never before.  I'm still a little weak cause it was kinda warm in the office with all the windows and door shut.  I am so glad to be out of there!  Momma didn't even get mad at me when she noticed that I had pee'd on the cushion on the office chair.  I was trying to find an absorbent cushion or something ( like what Spotmeister does with the hairballs on the throw rugs ) so that way momma could just wash it.  I didn't want to use the carpet.  I had to "go" so bad!  Anyways, I will always be careful now to make sure I am not in the office when they are getting ready for work  I don't want to do that again....   Rusty

Momma got this "cool" tabletop water fountain for our living room.  The water swishes around and it trickles down some of the rocks in this fountain.  I'm not sure yet if I like it or not but I keep looking over at it.  I don't think momma wants me to go near it though - she gets this look of discern when I get near it.   Maybe I will play with it tomorrow when they are both gone for work.  I can always take a "drink" from it when i get lazy.  Maybe, its "special" water?  Momma says its good for the Feng Shui - Spotmeister practices Feng shui so he tells me a little about how it helps keep harmony and peace.  He says by placing a water garden or fountain in certain corners of the room ( such as in our case this would be the s.e corner of our living space ) this will help our wealth.  Anyways, not much else happening lately - the weather has been mild ( kinda chilly in the a.m. ) and warmer in the afternoon.  Until next week,  Rusty

HAPPY EASTER everyone!

fabrege egg for you! Happy Easter!

04/30/00 - Sunday

Lately Spotmeister and I have been VERY mischievous!  We can't find enough things to do in a day!  Momma finally had enough of us climbing onto things we weren't supposed to be on i.e.: the dining room table ( which is pretty fun and interesting cause there's always so much stuff on it we can play with and pens we can roll off of the top and let it fall to the ground ) and then there's the bathroom counters ( the plants on the counters are so much fun to tear apart and leave on the floor ) and oh, I almost forgot, getting on top of momma's laptop where its warm is my favorite thing to do.  Momma got us more toys to keep us active ( figuring we would leave HER things alone ) We got a few more balls to play with - but wait, these are not just "ordinary" balls - these are "CREEPY" ones, they look like a "bad" hair transplant and they are very glittery and shiny cloth type of balls that are so light and airy.  I love to push them under the couch and just lay there on my side, my one arm extended under the couch trying to get my toy - momma see's this and I get an immediate reaction out of her - its like she feels sorry for me and does everything she can to get my toy from under whatever it was that I put it under - sometimes the stove ( which is pretty hard to get unless you get a long wooden spoon and maneuver it for awhile ) or way under the couch where papa has to pick it up while momma fishes for it underneath.  Its pretty amusing watching this.  Today, I spotted one of the glittery balls in a plastic wrapper ( momma was saving the last one until we lost the other ones ) on the breakfast nook and I just HAD to have it!  I mean, there it was, all ready to be played with but I had one problem.  It was on the counter where I am not supposed to be on.  But what if the "wind" knocked it off and it "fell" on the ground?  Then it wouldn't be my fault if I played with it.  Well, I looked both ways, eager to get to this toy and after I was certain no one was looking, I got up there and pushed it out of the wrapper and on to the ground.   It was so much fun to play with it!  Momma knew right away though cause I heard her telling papa what a smart kitty I was getting up there just so I could get my toy.  She didn't scold me but I can tell she was a bit annoyed that she didn't catch me in the act.  Oh well, it was a GREAT day!  Rusty

05/14/00 - Sunday

Happy Mother's Day everyone! We LOVE our mamma!

05/21/00 - Sunday

Hi there!  Not much going on today except momma's back!!!!! YEAH!!!   She was gone this past week in Cabo - and all I got was "hugs and kisses" - I was hoping more for the "lip smackin, crunchy treats" that I usually get.   Momma says Spotmeister and I are getting a little too "plump" for her comfort.  She thinks we get too many treats and not enough exercise.  Like getting up on the counter when they are gone is not enough exercise. Sheeesh!  Momma says if we are good, we will get some Wheat grass this weekend when she makes her trip to the petstore.  Lately we've been getting into trouble and now our FENG SHUI Water Fountain has been replaced by a "vinegar" solution that really smells bad!   Here we thought we could be lazy and bypass the water dish by getting up on the table and licking the water.  Well, not no more!  Suddenly, drinking from the fountain is no longer desirable.  So much for that!  Anyways, it was really hot this weekend.  It hit 99 degrees here.  Lucky for us, we had the comforts of air conditioning.  We are such pampered cats!  More later,  Rusty

05/28/00 - Sunday             DAY OFF today!!!!!    Happy Memorial Day everyone!

06/04/00 - Sunday

Just another LAZY day today........ <yawn>   More later AFTER i wake up from my "cat" nap,  Rusty

06/11/00 - Sunday

Momma let me play with some "packing" peanuts today!  You know, the kind they put into boxes when stuff gets shipped?  They are so light and airy.  I can fling them into the air and they go sailing - especially if the fan happens to be on.  Then they can go for "miles" - I started to try and "eat" one, they tasted a little "chewy" and not with any particular flavor - momma told me to quit eating them so I had to stop.  Otherwise, she would put all of them away and I would lose out on my fun!  Spotmeister doesn't really care for them - to me, they are so fascinating cause you never know where they will end up.  I launched a few behind the coffee table when momma wasn't looking - now I got a good size stash back there. Just in case....  They also float nicely in mommas tabletop water garden.  I also chewed on a decorative fishing pole in the water garden.  Too bad I didn't get rid of the evidence good enough cause momma found the bits and pieces on the floor and gave us the "look" - anyways, more next week!  BTW - next week is SPOTMEISTER'S Birthday - he's going to be 6 years old ( in human years, that's 51 years in cats years! EGADS! )  Bye,  Rusty

06/18/00 - Sunday

HAPPY FATHERS DAY everyone!

and it's also SPOTMEISTER'S 6th Birthday!

My brother Spotmeister's webpage got nominated again from AOL for HALL of FAME - in less than 1 week, he got 2196 hits and still counting!  Every week AOL picks the HALL OF FAME pages from previous TOP PICK pages - His page got picked for TOP PICK just last year!!!!  Anyways, its been an exciting week for him.  All the email and people signing his guest book like he was some kind of celebrity or something!  And I even got mentioned a few times too!  Well, its been a GREAT week.  Later, Rusty

06/25/00 - Sunday

Learned how to jump REAL high!  And I mean, REAL high!  I can now climb the tables ( but I get into trouble if I get caught ) and now I can "leap" to the front window which is a half-moon shaped one that's perched way above the regular window in the living room.  That one's real high.  Momma doesn't get mad if I am up there.  She thinks its cute that I can get up there so high.  Tomorrow is momma's birthday so I am going to be real good and give momma lots of attention and let her give me hugs and kisses like she normally does.  Well, not much else to say.  Bye,  Rusty

STILL taking a Summer break - relaxing - chasing ants and spiders - eating them and just relaxing again ----------------  My 1 year Birthday is TOMORROW!  Momma says she's got a "Special" present for me!  I can't wait!  see ya next week!  Rusty

07/23/00 - Sunday

Wow, Sunday already!  We've been sooooo busy around here lately - momma and papa just put our house up for sale and its already pending a sale!  It wasn't even listed in the MLS yet and we've already got a buyer - which means we will have to be moving pretty soon!  Hopefully, they will find a nice place soon so we won't be too traumatized!  Spotmeister says when they moved into this house last year, it took him a few days to get used to being in a new place.  I know I will like anywhere I go - I'll even miss this house too!  We have such neat skylights and high ceilings and neat half moon windows that I like to perch in.  Anyways, gotta go now so see ya next week!  Rusty

08/13/00 - Sunday

Sorry it's been so long - Momma and papa were so busy the last few weeks looking for a new place for us to live - They finally found Spotmeister and me a condo - so the next few weeks they will be so busy - and to top that off, they are leaving for Disney world tonight!  We get to stay over at Grandma ma's place - I have never met them but I think Spotmeister will remember when we get over there - Momma's got our pet carriers all set out and the first thing Spotmeister did was run under the bed when he saw these on the living room floor.  <laugh> Me, I went inside both of them, lied down for a bit and sniffed around.  No big deal. So anyways, more later......  Rusty

08/20/00 - Sunday

My, time flies when you are having fun!  Momma and Papa are still away on their vacation and we are here at Grandma ma's house - Spotmeister looks like he had seen a ghost and has been "camped" out in the closet the last few days.  No amount of coaxing, from either myself or Grandma ma can get him out of the closet.  You think he'd be somewhat familiar with this house since he HAS lived here before.  Me, well I have been out a few times, sniffed around, climbed on the furniture, left a few stragglers of hair here and there and even kicked out a few hand full of cat litter onto the nice hardwood floor they have.  Makes things interesting when one can actually "slide" on the litter and have it scatter ALL over the place. <laugh>  Grandma ma doesn't realize what she's in for!  Wait'll she sees the mess we've made!  She will probably never invite US over again.  Well, Momma and Papa will be coming to pick us up in a few days - we can't wait!  We want to be home, in the comforts of our own home with all our wonderful toys and stuff.  More later,  Rusty, the "mischievous" one

08/27/00 - Sunday

Well, Momma and Papa made it back safely - lots of stories about Disney World and their trip to Cleveland.  I'm just so happy they are home!  We didn't tell them the mess and stuff we did at Grandma ma's place but I'm sure they will find out soon enough.  I mean, we left enough hair on the furniture there to weave a new coat!  Momma bought us some new toys too.  Well, I actually got to them BEFORE she gave them to us.  I spied a package on the kitchen counter and oddly enough, it sure looked like toys for us.  Curiosity mounts so I climbed on the breakfast nook  ( not supposed to be up there ) and stared at this package for a few minutes, pondering on whether I should open it, hide the wrapping and hope no one notices it.  So I bravely jumped up on the chair, then looked around slowly ( she could appear at any seconds notice ) and swiftly opened the wrapping, not being too careful where the remnants of the plastic go, as a matter of fact, I rip it open and quickly play with the 2 furry delectable mice inside.  They go flying everywhere!   Oh my Gawd!  I can't believe how high these "mice" can jump!  But alas, my excitement was short lived though as I tried to conceal my anguish, I hear the car pull up in the driveway and I scrambled to hide the 2 little mice, anywhere, maybe under the kitchen table, no, better put it under the couch.  I quickly take my place in front of the back door ( as I usually do when she comes home ) and wait for what seemed like hours for her to open it.  It opens.  I greet Momma with my usual cries of "not me, I didn't do it" cries but I saw the look on her face.  <sigh>  She noticed.  Momma found it right when she walked in.  She didn't even say anything to me but I can tell what she was thinking.  I later overheard her tell Papa what a "smart" boy I was and that I must have not been able to wait until she gave me the present to play with it.  Too late now.  BUT it was FUN!   Life IS wonderful in my neighborhood!  More later,  Rusty

New rule tomorrow.

09/03/00 - Sunday

Today, I discovered "Crème Savers" - they're the little hard candies that my momma likes.  They are little hard delectable candies that momma says taste like the ice cream half and half bars.  They have a real smooth texture with a crème and orange swirl.  I have been wanting to taste them ever since I saw them on the dining room table.  So, I waited till everyone was asleep and climbed on the dining room table, looking around and listening for those tell-tale foot steps.  Nope, no one around so I jumped up there, grabbed a couple and slowly slid them off the table and onto the floor.  Everyone's asleep so every pin drop of a noise can be heard throughout the house.  I wait a few seconds before jumping down.  Then, I tried in vain to unwrap them but the plastic wouldn't budge!  I swear I saw momma just "peel" the wrapping from one end with little ease.  They must be kitty-proof.  I tried and tried for what seems like hours until I finally gave up.  Too much work for such little candies, I thought.  But the smell of them when momma eats them are so heavenly - anyways, I didn't get a chance to lick any of them so I guess I'll just "hide" them until next time.  So I pushed them under the carpet piece in the living room hoping no one would notice.  Momma noticed.  I swear she has eyes on the back of her head!  She notices everything!  She came in and saw the carpet messed up as usual and when she was straightening it up, she felt something bumpy under the carpet.  She found my two crème savers I stashed and put them back up on the table.  Means one thing, I have to go back up there again tonight and get them back.  More later,  Rusty

October - November - December 2000

10/01/00 thru 10/31/00

This whole month has been chaotic!  We just moved into our new home, getting used to our surroundings and just helping momma and papa "unpack" things!  Plus, they went to Cabo for 5 nights and we had to stay at Grandma ma's place again.  Spotmeister was pretty terrified with all that was going on and all - but we are managing and we LOVE our new home!  More later,  Rusty

11/05/00 - Sunday

Spotmeister and I have found new things to do in our "new" home - We "open" all the drawers and cabinets in the house when momma and papa are gone.  This drives them absolutely wild!  Especially when we start "digging" out the hand towels in the bathroom drawers.  We open it up and put every towel we can find on the floor.  Then when they get home, they have to re-fold all of them and place them back in.  This takes about 5 minutes and we get a good laugh.  We also love to get into the pantry in the kitchen.  Spaghetti makes good batting practice toys - especially on them hardwood floors!  They go everywhere!  They don't get too mad at us - I think I even heard momma laughing about it to papa, asking him what he thinks we are thinking of when we do this. At any rate, its good fun and its keeps us from getting into too much trouble!  Until next time, Rusty

MYTH: Cats eyes shine at night because they are casting out the
light they gather during the day.
FACT: Baloney. How can we gather daylight when we are sleeping
all day?

MYTH: When a cat's whiskers droop, rain is coming.
FACT: When a cat's whiskers droop, rain is here. The whiskers are
wet.

MYTH: If you want to keep a cat from straying, put butter on its
paws.
FACT: I won't stray because you won't be here to open the door.
You will be in the hospital as a result of your attempt to butter
my paws.

MYTH: If a cat sneezes near a bride on her wedding day she will
have a happy marriage.
FACT: 4-in-5 marriages end in divorce. Not a lot of sneezing
going on, huh? Maybe they ought to rewrite that one and make it
'coughs hairballs.'

MYTH: Stepping over a cat brings bad luck.
FACT: Worse luck, actually. It exposes your most vulnerable areas
just in case you miss and step on us.

MYTH: Cats suck the breath from babies.
FACT: We don't 'suck the breath.' Cats enjoy baby breath as much
as humans. If you had a choice between a baby's breath and the
Big Owner's breath, which would you choose?

MYTH: Cats always land on their feet.
FACT: So explain the bumps on my head.

MYTH: A cat has nine lives.
FACT: Well, okay, that one's true. I happen to have a can of it
sitting right in front of me. But not all cats like the taste,
however.
